eTags Examines Why Smarter People Have Trouble Passing Driving Test

If you failed your driving test the first time around, you might feel a little down on yourself. However, you might be surprised to find out that failing the first time is common among certain groups. eTags recently featured a study on its blog that shone new light on why some people fail their driving test. According to the study by Privilege DriveXpert, people who had a postgraduate qualification or degree had a tougher time passing their driving test than those who did not.

51 percent of people in the UK were able to pass their driving test on the first try. On the other hand 48% of people with an undergraduate degree passed their driving test on the first try. Finally, 47% of people with a postgraduate degree passed on the first try. Those with a degree in the math and sciences had the toughest time passing. Now, obviously, the question is why would a higher level of education indicate worse results on the driving test?

In truth, the study only provided the numbers and did not really get into the why. Obviously, we can speculate though. One possible theory could be that the driving test is stressful. People who are highly analytical by nature may be thinking about the test too much and getting nervous. They may forget about what they learned and fail to focus. Also, if they were concentrating on their studies, they may have had less time to practice driving.

Whatever the case, eTags stresses that no matter when someone passes his or her driving test, driving skills improve with age. That’s because a driver will encounter new situations and be able to use those experiences for future driving. In addition to that, risky and aggressive driving tendencies do tend to diminish with age.

Whether you passed the driving test on your first try or tenth, the key is to drive safely at all times. This is why eTags updates its blog all of the time with information related to driver safety. If you have any questions about safe driving, texting while driving, or what the DUI laws are in your state, the blog is a good resource to check out. Whether you have a postgraduate degree or don’t, driving safe is the smartest you can do while on the road.
